Hello I was just thinking about some of the jokes from F.G and how some of them are lost on me mainly due to the fact that these jokes are more based for american audiences, what do you think? Do you feel that some of these jokes are alienating the show to the US or do you think some of these jokes still pay off? It would be interesting to see how the show is received between the two countries.
I know what you mean, being Australian it can be a bit wierd when you know it's a joke but it's a joke made for Americans. Perfect examples are when they parody a TV Commercial that you have no idea even exist.
Some jokes that focus on something major that's happening over there I'll generally understand, but other then that they just go Woosh!

Wonderful, and while we're at it we can light up a doobie and watch porn...
i've actually learnt quite a lot about american popular culture from watching family guy. A lot of the gags are based on tv shows and events that happened in the 80's too, so i imagine a large proportion of the audience is too young to get those. I can only speak for the UK but the majority of family guy fans I know were babies or very young kids in the 80's, myself included, so a lot of the jokes are only funny because of their basic concepts or comic timing - which I guess proves that there is more to the FG writing style than critics like to admit.
Yeah I totally agree, luckily some of the 80s jokes are usually from big films so I understand them, but theres alot I have no idea about, its funny how it works the other way around, for example if you watch a film (espically a serious one) you'll pick up on something that family guy did and you'll start laughing, it can ruin films somethimes then you just forgive em coz its family guy!
a friend of mine in the neitherlands sometimes has difficulty with american humor alot of like comon expressions used here he dosent understand the meaning so when they do a joke about it hes like WTF?
