Who what now?It seems you're new to forums in general. If you do want to get flamed to heck and back because of a terrible first post, I recommend reading up on what
netiquitte is, and what you should and should not do. You should also read all of this FAQ, the
board rules, and watch
this helpful flash video and check out the
Help section. I also recommend you only read the forum a few days to get a feel for how DYA runs.
There are people who seem to be jumping down my throat. What'd I do?There may be a number of reasons why people are jumping on you.
1. You broke a rule. Did you read the
rules? Then take a gander if see if that's the case.
2. You broke some unwritten, but well-known netiquette rule.
This video should help explain most of the common sense rules that are obeyed on every board you'll encounter online.
3. Maybe the other members are only joking? It is very hard to detect sarcasm online.
4. The older members are in a bad mood. Perhaps their dog died? Maybe it's that time of the month?
How do I change my profile, avatar, title, sig, etc?Click the Profile button (under the search box). Next, click
Forum Profile Information on the menu on the left. There you can edit your personal profile.
I put my avatar in my profile, but it's not showing up. Why?Be sure to select the
I have my own pic radio button and enter a valid URL. Avatars must be no more then 150x120 pixels and be under 50KB. If the avatar is over that limit, the forum system will not allow you to use it.
Where can I get a custom avatar or sig?You can request an avatar or sig in the
All purpose Request Thread. Avatars, Sigs, Screenshots, etc thread.
What is karma?Karma is a meaningless statistic that reflects how good of a member someone is. A member can receive positive or negative karma from any member with 100 or more posts. Ideally, karma is given to reflect a positive or negative post by a user.
You must have at least 100 posts before you can give karma. You must wait 12 hours before you can give the same person karma again.
What are warnings?Warnings are just that, a warning for breaking the forum rules. You can read more about them and the various levels
here.
I got a warning. Why? What can I do about it?Learn from your mistake and obey the
rules.
Do not make any post asking why you were warned or complaining about it. That will only lead to additional warnings. You can, however, PM a mod or admin if you feel you do not deserve a warning.
When you get a warning, you will receive a PM with a link to the post what was warned. You can view the comment left by the moderator to see why you were warned.
How long will my warning usually last?By default warnings and mutings only last a few days. When the little circle is no longer under your name, you are no longer warned or muted.
I've had my warning for more then the mod said I would. What gives? There is some fault in the warning system programming and they do not always expire. You will have to PM a mod or admin to get the warning removed.
Help! I can't post and my name is black in the Who's Online list!If you see your name in black on the Who's Online list and you can't post, you've probably been muted. The staff member who muted you should have sent you a PM stating what you did to get muted. If you did not receive one, either PM or e-mail an administrator to find out what you did and how long you will be muted.
Why was my topic locked?Usually, when your topic is locked, a mod or admin will post why. Topics may be locked because there is an existing topic with the same subject, it's gone too off-topic, or isn't a good topic of discussion to begin with. Those are not the only reasons for lockings, but are the main ones.
My posts seem to be disappearing!Your posts were probably way off topic, unwarranted flaming, spam, or just plain stupid. A moderator or administrator probably deleted them.
DO NOT repost them.
DO NOT make reference to the fact they were deleted.
I only see red X's. I don't see any pictures. To save bandwidth, DYA will not show any pictures unless your browser says it is viewing a page on damnyouall.net. Some firewalls, browsers, privacy, and anti-virus block the sending of this data. Try turning off those security programs one by one to see which one is causing the problem. After you have found which program is causing the problem, you should be able to find out to fix it at the programs website.
How can I become a mod?Be a good member. Mods are picked, when needed, by the other mods and admins of DYA. A good candidate is an established user who is online often, follows the rules, and contributes to the board.. The best way to
not become a mod is to ask the current mods or admins to become one.
I thought HckySo was gay, what's up?Isn't he still?
Where can I download tonight's episode of Family Guy / American Dad / Cleveland Show?Torrent sites of any nature be they FG related or otherwise are
Strictly Forbidden in any public area of the forums. Posting a link to or any discussion of such sites will result in a warning for the first offense and a
permanent IP ban for the second.
Why can't I post links?Chances are, if you're asking this, you only came here to post a link, probably never to return. Stick around long enough and eventually you'll earn the privilege of posting links! Prove you can be a quality member of this community, and that you're not just a spammer. If you are just here to post a link to your streaming FG or AD blog, your YouTube channel, or an alternative FG forum, don't bother.
If you have a post count of less than 5 on your first offense, it will be assumed you are a spammer and you will be IP banned.
Muchos Gracias Arsi, Machinest, Voices, and Larry for help in compiling the FAQ.
Latest update (11/15/09): Formatting fixes, turns out updating the board software isn't kind to old posts. -sf
