If you're new to DYA, be sure to check out the DYA FAQ and Family Guy FAQ.

How Our Penalty System Works
There are four levels you can be put penalized with for breaking the forum guidelines. The level of punishment will be decided by the mod/admin depending on the severity of the problem:

  • Warned:  You will not lose any privileges or permissions when warned.  This is simply a state in which you should be careful about your actions.  If you're penalized and are already in the warning state, you will be moderated or muted (read on to learn more about these).

  • Moderated:  All of your posts must be approved by a moderator prior to being shown to the rest of the forum. This is seldom, if ever, used.

  • Muted:  While muted, you will not be able to post at all.

  • Temporarily Banned:  Temporarily blocks you from using this forum.

  • Permanently Banned:  Banning blocks you from using this forum.  It is a last resort and is irreversible.  If you follow the rules and use common sense you will never have to worry about this.

General Forum Courtesy
In order to keep the forum readable and organized, we ask that you do the following:
  • Do not post in ALL-CAPS.

  • Do not post off topic. Posts in a thread should have some relation to the subject.

  • Give new topics a descriptive subject.  "I have a question" is not descriptive.  Your subject should give some insight into the purpose of your topic.

  • Avoid "AOL Language."  This is a forum.  It moves slower than a chat room, so take the time to type out "laugh out loud" instead of "LOL"

  • Try your best to use proper spelling and grammar.  While we understand that this may be more difficult for some members than others, we still request that you try your hardest to make your posts legible.

  • There are different forum sections for a reason. Do your best to post your topics in the proper section.

Summary of the guidelines

    • Sigs must be at or under 500x150 pixels and 50KB

    • Avatars must be at or under 150x120 pixels and 50KB

    • Do not hotlink images from other webpages without permission

    • Any explicit images or links must be clearly labeled as NSFW (Not Safe For Work).
They must be linked and not directly posted in threads.

    • Do not purposely spell words to bypass the censoring

    • Do not go crazy with the emotes

    • Do not flame unless it is in the backyard

    • Do not post anything racist

    • Do not impersonate an Admin or Moderator

    • Do not point out when a person breaks a rule

    • Use common sense netiquette

    • Be nice to the Admins and Moderators
    • Do not post links to piracy

    • Do not make duplicate accounts
    Sig and Avatar restrictions
Because not all members of the board have fast connections or high monitor resolutions, there has been a file and pixel limit placed on sigs and avatars. Avatars can be up to 50 Kb and 150x120 pixels big. Signatures can by up to 50 KB and 500x150 pixels big. Those who break this rule will not get a warning unless they've broken it several times, but they will have the offending sig/avatar replaced with an image that states "I don't know how to follow the rules." You are allowed to replace it with a correctly sized sig/avatar whenever you wish. Extremely offensive or inappropriate sigs or avatars will be removed at the administrator's discretion.

    Offsite Posting
Do not post an image in a post if you do not have permission to do so from the host of the image.  If you do not have permission but would like to share an image with other members, use the url tags instead of the img tags.

    Pornography
Any explicit images or links must be clearly labeled as NSFW (Not Safe For Work). They must be linked and not directly posted in threads. No illegal images or links will be tolerated and result in banning.

    Profanity and Censors
You are free to use profanity to your hearts content on DamnYouAll.net.  We offer censoring to our members who may not be comfortable with such language and we demand that you respect their wishes.  If you are found to be purposely spelling words differently to avoid the censoring, you will be penalized.

    Smiley Abuse
Emotes(:)) a great way to convey emotions online, but should not be overused. Using a large number of emotes at the same time for no apparent reason, or several of the same emotes in a row only wastes space.

    Double-Posting
Do not worry about double posting, as the forum software will automatically merge posts made one after another if less then an hour apart.

    Flame-wars
Off-topic arguments or flame-wars will not be tolerated outside of the DYA Backyard! If you feel a personal attack coming on, create a topic in the backyard and invite them to it. DO NOT post more than one invitation. If a flame-war takes place outside of the Backyard forum, all parties involved will be penalized.

    Intolerance
We do not tolerate racism, sexism, ageism, or the like in any form here on the forums.  Use of intolerant language directed at an individual or group of people is not acceptable in any form.

    Impersonating a Moderator or Administrator
The Moderator, Administrator, and other tags are to be used only by those who have earned them. Anyone who uses a tag without having earned them will receive a warning. Fake tags (preferably funny ones) are perfectly fine. Impersonating a mod or admin outside the forum (such as e-mail or IM) is also not acceptable.

Posting About an Infraction of the Rules
Do not post pointing out when a member breaks a rule. This is is off-topic posting and adds clutter. If you wish to help someone avoid a warning, PM them about the rule breakage.

    Protesting a warning in public
If you receive a warning, do not make a thread or post about it in the forums. PM an admin if you feel you've received a warning in error.

Do not protest the warnings of others in public.

    Piracy
DamnYouAll.net does not allow links to pirated material to be posted on its site.  If you do so, you may be warned or banned.

    Duplicate accounts
Do not create a duplicate account to subvert the actions of a moderator or administrator.  If you do so, you will be banned along with your duplicate account.  Creating a second account for humorous purposes is okay, as long as it's funny and it's not done often.

My posts seem to be disappearing!
Your posts were probably way off topic, unwarranted flaming, spam, or just plain stupid.  A moderator or administrator probably deleted them.
    DO NOT repost them.
DO NOT make reference to the fact they were deleted.

AOL type language / meme words du jour

AOL language includes but is not limited to:
    lol
    brb
    ttyl
    using 2 for 'to'
    b for 'be'
    irl
    u for 'you'
    r for 'are'

meme words include but are not limited to:
    ftw
    ftl
    epic
fail/failure as a single word response**
win as a single word response**
lose/loss as a single word response**
    lulz / lolz

Just because you don't see what you posted on the above lists does not mean you won't be warned about it.

Be careful when you use these, while not fully banned, if you're not using them in jest / ironically / facetiously* you'll probably be warned.

Take the time to type things out, and if you can't think of anything to say other than "lawl, epic win!", please refrain from posting at all.

*For the purposes of this rule definitions and context of these words are determined on a case by case basis by the warning Administrator or Moderator.
**"single word response" is not defined as a one word response, but rather a non contributory response that has as its main/sole idea/theme/content/purpose etc the enclosed meme.[/list]
