Does anyone else get this thing where, when reading a particularly engrossing book in some public setting, your reality and the book seem to merge and when someone interacts with you and you're wondering if they're an android or maybe even you're the android and the whole world seems bleary and out of focus?
Haha all the time. I particularly remember a non-stop reading of Dan Simmon's The Terror where I'd be walking around and physically shivering like I too was freezing to death in the Arctic. And sometimes I'd wake up in the the middle of the night and it would be a good minute or so before consciousness came roaring and I realized that I wasn't trapped in a landlocked ship's barracks, listening to the echoed pounding of some sort of creature just outside in the sub-zero water.Jesus, that was a vivid fucking novel. You should read it if you haven't already Fett...there's few things better than a true-life story of survival in harsh frozen conditions combined with a terrifying monster.
